Jazz Yorkshire is holding a one-day festival of youth jazz on Sunday 31st January at Ripon Grammar School, Ripon, North Yorkshire.
The event will include a series of performances by youth jazz ensembles, feedback from nationally recognised adjudicators, awards for individuals, sections and ensembles, workshops, and a performance by a top-line professional jazz orchestra.
Participation in the event is open to people of school age. If your school, music centre or other interested organisation is based in Yorkshire or the Humber, and has jazz ensembles - jazz orchestras, swing bands, small groups etc, which would like to participate, please complete the online application form (now closed).
The purpose of the Jazz Jamboree is to provide the opportunity for up to 10 jazz ensembles of children of school age to develop their jazz skills by selecting, preparing and performing a jazz set in front of two nationally recognised adjudicators and an audience of parents, supporters and participating band members.
The adjudicators and audience will provide feedback and all participants will be recognised. Awards will be made to bands, programme, individuals, sections, etc at the discretion of the adjudicators. The band deemed most likely to benefit from the experience will be offered the opportunity to be mentored by staff/alumni of the Leeds College of Music following which it is expected a CD of the band will be recorded.
Running alongside the performances will be workshops for all participants lead by two of the country's leading jazz musicians.
The day will end with a performance by the nationally acclaimed Al Wood Big Band.
