This is the second gig postponed from the awful winter at last we can host these two major musicians! Jasons activities as a composer have taken over his life so much that his performing opportunities are fewer than the paying public would wish. Most recently his role as LSO Discovery Panufnik Young Composer has occupied his talents. His writing for WAH! and the duo with Andrew is also remarkable and shows his Jazz credentials well. Jason makes his first appearance for Wakefield Jazz but has paid his dues since his days with the Jazz Warriors (for whom he became MD) before the millennium. Andrew was Music Critics and BBC Jazz Awards Rising Star in 2006 and was greatly appreciated when he visited Wakefield with Dave OHiggins last season. He is also a sophisticated composer for the duo. We shall hear contemporary jazz of a matchless quality where references to classical music, the whole of jazz history and popular music may be presented in a tumbling cornucopia of experiences. The future sounds of jazz indeed. Mike Pickering has visited Wakefield with Billy Jenkins and Larry Bartley with Byron Wallen. One of the most exciting talents on the UK jazz scene. His debut album, Telescope, does not disappoint. Ultimately this is an album where you do not have to hit the skip button. Straight No Chaser on Andrew the scale of Yardes achievement isobvious. His compositions range over varied terrain, from cataclysmic pile-ups to moments of hushed intimacy; he directs almost imperceptibly, teasing out the melody or chord that will lead to the next section, and allowing his musicians space to stretch outno ordinary band and no ordinary leader Jazzwise ...more details

How to get your gig added to the Gig Guide

At present gigs are added to the calendar by a small team of volunteers and friends of Jazz Yorkshire.

We will endeavour to get your gigs added as soon as we can but it is recommended to send them over as early as you can as it might take a few weeks to get them into the guide.

It helps if you can include website links for the artist and promoter as this helps people when they want to find out more about your gig.

It will also be quicker if you can send a Word or RTF document with the details rather than just sending a printed flyer

new feature - residencies

The Gig Guide now includes pub and club gigs which take place on a weekly basis. If you organise or know of a pub gig which should be added please let us know.
